Choosing a funeral director

There are many funeral directors to choose from - look on funeralmap to find funeral directors in the area you need, and then phone around! You need to be comfortable with the funeral director that you choose as you are putting your trust in them to do a most important job for you.

For peace of mind, look for a funeral director who is a member of a trade association, either The National Association of Funeral Directors -, or the Society of Allied Independent Funeral Directors -

When you telephone or meet with a funeral director, ask for a clear and detailed breakdown of their fees and what services they offer. Their duties will include things like:

  • Taking care of the person who has died
  • Dealing with the required paperwork
  • Arranging details with the cemetery, crematorium or natural burial site
  • Liaising with a religious minister, celebrant or other person who is to conduct the ceremony
  • How will you get to the funeral?
